Milky Chance has a very bright future and I can’t wait to see them live this summer. The full-length debut album from Milky Chance, 2013s Sadnecessary, showcases the German duos stylistically varied sound. It’s the sort of album you can listen to again and again without realizing you are doing it. The album then continues into the amazing “Stolen Dance,” which almost always has me singing along, and ends with the beautiful “Loveland.”
This is tempered with the melodic “Fairytale,” a nice slow jam. Then there’s the upbeat and exciting “Sweet Sun” that is almost guaranteed to have you tapping your foot or bobbing your head. “Down By The River,” which is the second single off the album, is a beautiful song with great lyrics. After a brief interlude with “Indigo,” the album continues into “Sadnecessary,” a clever and emotional tune that has the potential to put you into a trance. While the slow version of “Feathery,” the fifth song on the album, is nice, I really like the remixed Bonus Track version of the song best. The third and fourth songs on the album “Becoming” and “Running” stay more true-folk, with their calming, haunting energy. The album opens with the boozy and fun “Stunner,” a great way to ease you in to the unique folk-electronic sound of Milky Chance, a sound which is even better embodied by “Flashed Junk Mind,” the second song on the album, and one of my favorites. “Stolen Dance” quickly swept up America (and the world) with its playful melody and feel-good vibe, becoming one of my favorite jams.Ī few days ago, I picked up a copy of Sadnecessary and I have since listened to it at least four times.
